In the film, Jack (Jackie Chan), a world-renowned archaeology professor, and his team are on a grand quest to locate a lost ancient Indian treasure when they are ambushed by a team of mercenaries and left for dead. Using his vast knowledge of history and Kung Fu, Jack leads his team on a race around the world to beat the mercenaries to the treasure and save an ancient culture in this breakneck action-comedy that reunites Chan with acclaimed director Stanley Tong (Rumble in the Bronx, Supercop).

该电影根据真实的历史事件启发改编，作为涉及世界各地多个地区拍摄的项目，唐季礼选择了大唐御史出使天竺的故事，以历史根据将中国与印度这两个地方及文化背景互相联系起来。天竺是中国唐代对印度的称谓，在唐代中国出使天竺时发生了士兵和宝藏神秘消失的事件，故事就根据此事件创作。众人展开寻宝之旅，经历冰岛的冰天雪地、杜拜的炎热沙漠，和各式危险动物共处，惊险的飚车场面，精彩的动作场面，绝对高潮迭起！
